# Creating Your Account

> Sign up for C3 Esports using Discord OAuth or email and password.

## Sign-up options

There are two ways to create a C3 Esports account:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card icon="discord" title="Sign up with Discord">
    **Recommended.** Discord is required to compete anyway — signing up this way links your account automatically and skips a step.
  </Card>

  <Card icon="envelope" title="Sign up with Email">
    Use an email address and password. You'll still need to link Discord later before you can participate in matches.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Sign up with Discord (recommended)

1. Go to [c3esports.com/auth/register](https://c3esports.com/auth/register).
2. Click **Continue with Discord**.
3. A Discord authorization prompt opens — click **Authorize**.
4. You're redirected back to the platform and your account is created instantly.
5. Proceed to [set up your player profile](/getting-started/setting-up-your-profile).

<Note>
  Make sure you authorize with the Discord account you actually use for gaming. You cannot change your linked Discord account later without contacting staff.
</Note>

## .edu verification

To compete in C3 Esports you must verify that you are a currently enrolled college student. We use your `.edu` email address to confirm this.

### How to verify

1. After creating your account, go to **Profile → Edit**.
2. Find the **.edu Verification** section.
3. Enter your college `.edu` email address and click **Send Verification Email**.
4. Open the email and click the confirmation link.
5. Your account is marked as verified and you're eligible to join a team and compete.

<Warning>
  You must complete `.edu` verification before a team manager can add you to an active roster. Start this process early — emails may take a few minutes to arrive.
</Warning>

### My .edu isn't being recognized

Some schools use non-standard email domains. If your verification email doesn't arrive or your domain isn't accepted:

1. Join the [C3 Esports Discord](https://discord.gg/c3esports).
2. Open a support ticket in the appropriate channel.
3. Provide proof of enrollment (acceptance letter, student ID, unofficial transcript, or class schedule).
4. A staff member will manually verify your account.
