# Joining a Team

> How to get added to a team roster using an invite code.

In C3 Esports, **you do not apply to teams** — a team manager adds you using an invite code. This guide explains how the process works and what you need to do before you can join.

***

## Before you can join any team

You must complete two account steps first. Without both, you will get an error when trying to use an invite code:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Verify your .edu email" icon="envelope-circle-check" href="/getting-started/creating-your-account">
    Add your school email address to your profile and click the verification link sent to it.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Link your Discord account" icon="discord" href="/getting-started/linking-discord">
    Connect Discord from Profile → Settings → Connected Accounts.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Warning>
  You can only be on **one team roster at a time**. If you are currently on a team and want to join a different one, you must be removed from your current team first. See [Leaving a Team](/players/leaving-a-team).
</Warning>

## How to join a team

<Steps>
  <Step title="Get the invite code from your manager">
    Ask the team manager to share the team's invite code or invite link. They can find it on their team page. The link looks like:

    ```
    https://c3esports.com/teams/join?code=YOURCODE
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use the invite link or enter the code manually">
    **Option A — Invite link:** Click the link your manager shared. You will be taken directly to a confirmation page.

    **Option B — Manual entry:** Go to [c3esports.com/teams/join](https://c3esports.com/teams/join), type or paste the code, and click **Join Team**.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm and join">
    You will see a preview of the team (name, tag, logo, current roster size). Click **Confirm** to join.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your eligibility status">
    After joining, go to your profile or the team's roster page. Your eligibility status will show as green (ready to compete) once both .edu and Discord are verified.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Once you join, introduce yourself in your team's Discord server if you haven't already. Your manager will likely share the match schedule and expectations for the season.

## Why you cannot be on multiple teams

The one-team rule exists to prevent players from competing against their own teammates in different divisions — which would create obvious conflicts of interest and potential for match manipulation. Staff enforce this actively, and being found on multiple rosters can result in removal from both and a temporary ban.

## I cannot find an invite code — can I browse available teams?

C3 Esports does not have a public team recruitment board. If you are looking for a team:

1. Post in the **#looking-for-team** channel in the [C3 Esports Discord](https://discord.gg/c3esports).
2. Mention your skill level, school, and availability.
3. Wait for a manager to reach out with an invite code.
